Act to Succeed

Filed Under (Success) by Odie on 15-12-2009

Success is a major goal, a desired outcome. But you first need to be clear about what success means to you. Once you know what your goal or objective is, you can take steps to achieve it. Action is critical to achieving success…

Success is not just an achievement. It’s more, a lot more actually. It goes beyond the realm of achievement, in the sense that it’s a process of continuous growth and achievement driven by passion and persistence. It’s the sum total of a life full of achievements. And it all begins with goal setting followed by action.

The dictionary defines success as the achievement of something desired or planned, the attainment of fame or prosperity. Success can relate to your profession, relationships, health, wealth, scholastic results. Usually, people driven by great passion, undying spirit and boundless energy get what they want and reach where they want. They are driven and go for it come what may… Obstacles and challenges don’t dissuade them or make them throw up their arms in defeat. And that’s why these kind of people succeed. It’s quite clear that persistence or constancy of effort and action play a big role in achieving success.

The idea is to start with a crystal clear idea of what you want to achieve, and to work towards the goal slowly, but surely. Along the way, flexibility is required. You’ll have to discard what’s not working and incorporate what works in order to get results. It’s not about being in the mood or not being in the mood for work! You just have to keep at it irrespective of moods. If you’re a student, you have to study even if you’re not in the mood. If you’re an author, you have to fill the blank page staring at you whether you feel like it or not! As an athlete you must train consistently and can’t afford to bunk if you’re not ‘in the mood’. In other words, success calls for focused dedication.

During this process, it makes sense to learn from a mentor, be it a physical, flesh and blood person or material from an achiever, someone whose accomplishments you’d like to emulate. After all, they’ve been there and done that and there’s no harm in learning from them! It allows you to learn from their mistakes, to live in the knowledge that what you’re aiming for can be done. Since someone has achieved it before, that becomes a source of encouragement.

Try not to view success as an end result or a moment in time. Look at it as a process that is sometimes quick to achieve by making leaps and bounds, and sometimes slow to get there by taking small, baby steps. The important thing is to get there, learning and picking up invaluable experience along the way. All the best… You can do it, if you think you can!
